Tirpitz Museum opened its doors in 2017. With an average of 230,000 annual visitors, they have broken the traditional way to experience museums. Currently the Tirpitz Museum brings different exhibitions to one place using an audio tour made for all audiences with theatrical scenographies and videos. Tirpitz’s visitors can immerse themselves in 212 different stories.
When they were in the process of creating the Tirpitz project, they had a clear objective: creating a social experience. They were looking for a solution to target a new audience, to stop relying on text panels and to focus on audio stories with different language options.
While working with exhibition designer ‘Tinker Imagineers’, Tirpitz was introduced to Guide ID’s audio guide solution. After testing different audio guides around European museums, our audio guide was the winner because of it being a user-friendly solution and its simplicity. The Podcatcher is now the storyteller of their stories.
Their audio tour approach was to focus on creating a social experience, so they created one tour to be experienced by the entire family. Their strategy was to focus on more than 200 stops with an average duration of 40 seconds. With different voices of professional actors, visitors can have a more interactive and dynamic experience. This way, they give visitors an incentive to come back to listen to the missed stories.
Tirpitz Museum has achieved its goal of bringing a social experience where people from all ages and backgrounds can have an equal experience. They have reached a new target group: non-usual museum visitors are now buying tickets for the Tirpitz experience.
The Podcatcher platform makes it possible for the Tirpitz team to have the entire audio tour process in house, from content creation to publishing the tour. The system is used for multiple exhibitions, and decisions made about content editing or choosing new audio tour languages are being helped by the analytics provided by the system.
